In internet slang, particularly on platforms like Reddit, the term "fake auditors" generally refers to individuals who stage confrontations with public employees (like security guards or police) and film the interactions to create "rage bait" content for social media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. These individuals often call themselves "First Amendment auditors" (or "1A auditors") and claim to be exercising their right to film in public spaces to hold officials accountable. However, the "fake" or derisive "frauditor" label is used by critics to describe those whose primary purpose seems to be: Provoking a reaction or an arrest, which generates views and income (monetization). Misrepresenting legal boundaries and interfering with official duties for the sake of creating dramatic content. Having "no actual job" and "trying to ruin people's careers". Reddit communities, such as r/securityguards and r/Frauditors, frequently discuss the actions of these individuals, often criticizing their methods and intentions. The term does not refer to professional financial or government auditors.
