My therapist told me that saying, “the longer you stay on the wrong train, the longer the way home is,” isn’t always true. Sometimes getting on the wrong train may not have been the right choice, but that does not mean the journey was meaningless. It does not mean you did not get to enjoy parts of the ride, see places you never would have seen otherwise, or learn something valuable along the way. Sometimes that “wrong train” shows you new sights, teaches you how the whole system works, and gives you an understanding you would not have had if everything had gone exactly according to plan. So maybe it was not the train you were meant to stay on forever, but that does not make the journey a waste.
