Ima tell you rn im a manager for one & yes its policy, but i tell my guys & girls only hand tight & show the band wrench for the cameras , i havent had a claim in idk how long . If your an attentive manager this wouldnt happen to cars trust me , ask me how i know. Abx…. If ykyk

Everytime I’ve had a Valvoline oil change come in I’ve had to stick a screwdriver through em to get em off🙄 Also I’ve had 2 with finger tight drain plugs

the valvoline i worked at required techs to use tools to tighten filters. there were cameras in the pit, and the double check where someone has to SEE you put a tool on it. if you are seen hand tightening it and not using a tool, it could be a write up. and they discouraged the use of bandwrenches unless we couldn't get another tool on it.

As far as that goes, the Toyota and Chrysler filter cups only need to be hand tight, the tool is only for removal.

im a service tech I've taken many of valvoline filter off and it's like someone tighten them with a breaker bar and it aggravates me to no end

It’s crazy how often I’ve seen a dry gasket, over tightened filter, and ON THE SAME CAR, drain plug you could breathe on and break loose.

They make you tighten them with a wrench on camera, or else if there’s an issue with the filter the customer comes back, files a claim, then you’re fired. When I was there, I didn’t care, not loosing my job so a mechanic can have a nice easy little oil filter to take off. It’s not a big deal, now I’m the one taking them off, nothings impossible when it comes to getting it off

Ngl it’s part of the process but the ppl who make the process have never been under a car before so they sit there and expect u to use a wrench every time I just hand tighten them tho plus we still have to take our filters off too so u can imagine how annoying that is for us
