Japan's culture sounds like such a nightmare for neurodivergent people. Genuinely, NO room for error

As an autistic who likes to travel, I am fascinated by how lived experiences of autistics differ from culture to culture (whether native, immigrant or tourist). It would be nice to find a culture where we aren't traumatized just for existing

I don't understand why Japan would be so dismissive of autistic people considering some of the culture seems unintentionally autism friendly.

I feel soooo bad for all the undiagnosed autistic and adhd kids in Japan. I feel like most “delinquents” in Japan aren’t bad kids, they just need help nobody is willing to give them.

I think it is a global experience for autistic people to feel like an alien in society. In more individualistic cultures cultures (I'm from Spain), diversity is more celebrated but always between some "socially acceptable" margins. The isolation is always brutal and complete. I'm sorry 💔

'Unfit' is so harsh ☹️. How horrible. As autistic people we never do it good enough anywhere, so lets just do what we want instead. 💫

All countries are the same. They want us like sheep. Be the goat whenever they push you to be the sheep. I send a hug to you. You are amazing.

Indigenous communities are the most accepting of all people and all nature. The Maori also have a concept of autistics as the people who go on their own pace. How fantastic is that!

it was horrible for me, a Dutch guy. and I think the Netherlands is almost social-culturally a little autistic, yet still it was hard. so I can't imagine how it must be in a country with so many comes unwritten social rules and politeness. that must be so hard

i keep saying this. I work with special needs kids in SEA, so many Japanese parents move here so that their kids can get more support and acceptance. bc they're bullied badly in Japan even by adults

Japan is only amazing for foreigners who live there, because we aren’t subject to the restrictive cultural norms and can enjoy the benefits of a highly systematized socialized culture. There HAS to be a happier medium.

Society simply doesn't know how to deal with autism and ADHD. It's not the other way around. I hope you're doing well now and that you've been able to cope with the bullying as best as possible.

That unfit for society comment gave me a feeling when you said it. I’m from Ireland and things have been said to me that gave me that same feeling. Why were the big people our biggest bullies at times.
