@womensporttv: Reina Tanaka achieves a new personal best this season, solidifying her status as a top athlete from Japan’s pole vaulting hub. In recent years, the sport of pole vaulting has witnessed a remarkable surge in record-breaking performances across various age groups. This past May, Tanaka elevated her personal record to an impressive 4.25m. At the time, she ranked second in Japan and was considered one of the country’s leading competitors. Born and raised in Kagawa Prefecture, Tanaka graduated from Kagawa University and currently works for a company in the region. Her hometown, Kagawa, is renowned as the "mecca" of Japanese pole vaulting. Mami Nakano, a former Japanese record holder and currently ranked sixth in Japan’s all-time standings, set the Kagawa Prefecture and Shikoku record at 4.31m. Recently, Tanaka made an ambitious attempt to surpass this milestone, aiming for 4.32m. Interestingly, the 4.31m mark is also the record achieved by Mizuki Kobayashi, who emerged victorious in this tournament. The focus now shifts to whether the competition will center on breaking the elusive 4.30m barrier in the near future.
