I am scientist and have used Hela cells in my research. I read the book about how she’s been done dirty. I still use her cells but I say a silent thank you to her every time I have to pull a vial out of storage

For decades science majors were told HELA cells were named for their helix shape. Well at least that’s what I was taught. Imagine my anger when I learned the truth

She died, like not even a yr after they stole her cells. She had I believe 6 kids. Who received nothing! Her babies were struggling and disadvantaged deeply without their mom.

I looked her up, and for anyone else who understands the history of medicine and atrocities committed against Black women, yes, Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman. We owe Black people much!! To be honest, reparations are not enough.

HeLa cells: we use them in lab in college and med school in the early 2000s. I read the book in 2010, and I still cry when i think about it. Those cells have helped humanity sooo much, her family should be set for life

This is my fear with Ancestry and 23&Me kits. There's a bigger reason why they have these than just finding your lineage.

I read this book when it was first released. Her cells were the first cells that did not deteriorate quickly during research. Cells did not last long enough. I doubt there is a medical advancement in the last 60+ years that can’t be traced back to HeLa cells. These cells have gone to space and to the depths of the seas. Every vaccine. We all benefit directly from her cells.
