@tazojunkie: Issac sent his son Jacob away from their homeland to in order to honor his wife Rebekah’s wish for their son Jacob to not choose a wife from the women of Canaan. Rebekah was tormented by her son Esau’s wives that he chose from foreign lands. She wanted a different experience with a wife that Jacob would choose. Jacob was her favorite of her twin sons Esau and Jacob. Esau was the first born with Jacob following by grabbing his heel. Issac loved Esau, Rebekah loved Jacob. Issac, the child promised by God to Abraham and Sarah in their old age is now old himself. He calls the oldest of his twin son’s to his bedside and is preparing to bless him. Rebekah over hears the conversation and makes a choice to deceive her husband Issac in order for her favorite child Jacob to receive the blessing from his father. Jacob’s only resistance to her plan was that his father might recognize him in his efforts to deceive. The deceptive plan is successful. Jacob is blessed with the blessings intended for the first born. Issac becomes aware of the deception when Esau arrives to be blessed. Heartbreak and rage follow and Jacob is sent away to the land of his Uncle Laban and is instructed to take a wife from Laban’s daughters. Rebekah would never again see her son Jacob. Jacob has a dream as he sleeps with his head on a rock, resting on his journey to his uncle’s home. God reveals Himself to Jacob. Heartbreak promises to protect and provide for Jacob and his descendants, keeping His word to Abraham. Jacob awakes and is aware of God’s presence for the first time. Heartbreak promises had lived a life unaware. Once Jacob was aware he created a memorial stone to mark the place. He also made a promise in his heart to give to God a tenth of everything God gives him. Jacob gives out of gratitude and as acknowledgement of his dependence on God. His response to being in the presence of the Lord is gratitude and dependence. Pure worship not obligation to religiousity. As I read this passage today, I was in a place of struggling with guilt for not being faithful to my tie. And I realized that it was a spirit of religion that was making me feel guilty. As I read this passage, ideas and thoughts of giving to God in order to be blessed or revealed in my spirit. I renounce those ideas and I brought myself back to a place of giving to God because I’m thankful That the most high God sees me and cares about me. It brought me back to a place of remembering that I am dependent on him. So I give out of gratitude and out of an acknowledgment of my dependence on the most high God. I am grateful that I am dependent on the most high God because he proves himself to be faithful and true gracious and glorious, kind, and gentle. ##jesus ##gratitude
