I used to dress to hide my body… as if I could actually do that. 🙈 To me, the goal was never to stand out, but also never to look bigger than I was. I wanted to be unnoticeable, or at least to blend in, because I didn’t want to draw more attention to myself than I felt my bigger body already did. Now, people tell me I should dress to “show off my body.” But style isn’t about that for me. I don’t want to dress to hide my body. I don’t want to dress to show off my body. I don’t want to dress to look smaller. I don’t even want to dress to “flatter” my figure. I don’t want my style to be about my body at all. I just want to dress in what I love. What feels cute, comfortable and true to how I feel. Style isn’t about changing your body to fit a certain shape or chasing attention. It’s about expressing yourself. 💃🏻 It’s not about blending in or standing out for others, it’s about embracing your identity and letting your confidence shine by being yourself no matter what you’re wearing. It was such a joy to walk around the city with my bare arms out and my scars fully visible. Most of the time I forgot they were even there until I noticed someone’s eyes lingering on them. I didn’t feel the need to hide them at all. I felt free. I felt confident. I felt like me. 🥰 It’s hard to believe I’m already so used to being sleeveless, after nearly two decades of only showing my forearms. To me, that proves my point: I’m no longer dressing to hide or to appear a certain way. I’m just dressing for me, for the first time in my life. 🙌🏻 And apparently I love vests and high waisted, wide leg pants. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 So, tell me… which one of my NYC outfits is your personal favorite?? 👗👚🧣
