My dad worked as a petroleum engineer for the Apollo launches at Cape Canaveral and I still have the slide rules he used at work.

Back in the 60's, my brother (ten years older than me) wore this on his belt.... to impress the girls. When I figured out how to use it, I carried it around with me all the time, but not on my belt.

My Father built Nuclear Power stations in the UK in the 50's,60's and 70's using a slide rule and brain power he didn't get access to a computer until the mid 70's

I have a collection of slide rules. I even have a few 7 foot teaching slide rules on the wall of my bedroom and living room.

Both uncles worked at McDonnell Douglas and Hughes respectively. Engineers. One environmental and one mechanical. Had multiple of these laying around. Taught me to use it. It’s easy. But lost on me now

when my community college started an HP-65 class all the slide rules in the school store went on 70% discount - that's when I started collecting - I'm up to 50 slide rules.

I have some nice vintage ones, bakelite and wood, and even a circular one that wasn't quite as accurate due to pi.

That was my favorite tool! It wasn’t backup. Backup was looking up logarithms and trig values in tables. Everything else was simple algebra. Adding machines could do that. But slide-rules were faster.
