Yeah but Frankenstein has been made weird so many times that to do so again would be derivative. I liked this new interpretation.

Please tell me this is a joke 😭 Not every movie has to be weird for the sake of being weird. And just cos a movie isn't weird doesn't mean its bad? I think I'd hate that tbh. Especially in the Gothic horror genre. Also Igor is not in the book and the monster is more accurate than other adaptations.

I get it, but as a fan of the original novel this is much more accurate. There are lots of silly whimsical versions of Frankenstein already. In the book Victor was a handsome college kid and the monster was said to be made from the parts of a perfect man. My biggest flaw I saw with the movie was them making Victor too obviously villainous. Like they couldn't trust the audience to get he was bad without extenuating it.

I 100% disagree with this take on Frankenstein, this wasn't a cartoony retelling, it's based on the actual book and as someone who loved the book as a kid I love this movie

the original story was not weird though. it sounds like your baseline for the story of frankenstein is the universal movie when del toro is trying go for a more faithful adaptation of the eloquence and melancholy of the original novel.

It was a deliberate choice to make the monster look more human. Victor also wasn’t the Hollywood stereotype of a mad scientist in the book (I still think the movie was bad). Just because one adaptation went the weird direction doesn’t mean they all do
