before yall get mad, remember that flavored soju is almost not drunk in korea in korean, soju is like vodka made out of rice with lower alcohol content and more actual rice flavour

It’s the same distillation and alcohol fermentation techniques just with different names, we really don’t need your ignorant takes downplaying soju because you had only had green bottle soju 💀

any korean will acknowledge that the mass produced green bottle soju is swill, but we do have nice traditional rice soju as well that just isn't as cheap therefore not as popular (though it is making a bit of a comeback)

but sochu and soju are (almost) the same thing. it’s just Jinro flavored soju is not real soju.

For more cultural context, the Korean Soju you know is a sanitized and commercialized version of what used to be basically homemade moonshine. It originally came about because Japanese occupying forces banned the in-home production of alcohol in Korea, controlling the production with the result of thousands of family recipes lost to time. Only now are some small distilleries reviving what knowledge is left.

Shochu and soju are the same but shochu is not gentrified like soju is, btw the shochu made out of sweet potato does have a little taste
