Checks the Heart Rhythm • Once the pads are placed on the patient’s chest, the AED analyzes the heart’s electrical activity. • It decides whether the heart is in a rhythm that can be corrected by a shock. ⸻ 2. Gives Voice Instructions • AEDs talk to you and guide every step, such as: • “Apply pads” • “Do not touch the patient” • “Begin CPR” • “Press shock button” ⸻ 3. Delivers an Electric Shock (if needed) • If the AED detects a dangerous rhythm like ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia, it tells you to give a shock. • The shock helps restart or reset the heart’s rhythm so it can beat normally again. ⸻ 4. Helps Increase Survival • Using an AED within 3–5 minutes of collapse can double or triple survival rates. • It works best together with CPR.
