I learned it after my grandmother passed. Don’t wait. Tell the people who you love. So I know when my mom passed she knew. That 6hrs before my brother was killed it was the last thing I told him. People react differently. But it’s a habit now.

Also, when I was in 8th grade, my classmate lost her little sister to a horseback riding accident. She told us at the funeral to never not say I love you when you want to. I say it all the time and I mean it.

I’m a teacher but not in a classroom anymore. I work with kids who don’t fit the mold of a traditional classroom. They get 1:1 tutoring awaiting placement in a “special” school and I case manage their tutors. Friday, I had to teach a lesson to a kinder who never met me before. Once a year I have to prove I’m a good teacher. I walked into the room and he immediately asked me if I wanted a hug. Literally we are not worthy and neither are the classrooms who can’t mold these kids into someone they shouldn’t be. We had so much fun and he rocked every single objective and went beyond anything I could have envisioned. I can’t wait for this generation to grow into the leaders we need.
