it's not compression. it's the heat that results from intense plastic deformation . which is billions of internal dislocations in the lattice resulting in huge internal friction. nothing to do with compression. when you can compress steel molecules with a hammer let me know. we can take over the world with new materials tsch. 🤣

Used to do this as a kid. Would always hammer nails to red hot and put them in water cause i felt like a smith when it hissed.
