Ya man, to turn everything to a cow calf operation isn’t the answer either. Let’s say u went ahead and turned it to cow calf, without rain would it be any better?

What would possess you to go all in cattle or grain? Why not be a mixed farmer? To me most don’t want cows because of the time commitment. I mean grain is a lot cleaner and easier to

I was just at a bred heifers sale and second Calvert were over$8000/head. Most were 77-7800 so I don’t think now is the best time to get back into cows

Your better to gradually add more breed stock than to switch totally over to cows. Grain is down right now, but it will come back. Politics will change, markets will open back up, rains will come back again, and the profits will come back.

at 7-8,000 is pricey for bred heifers and 2nd calvers.. some guys are now looking at corn silage as a way to bridge the gap 3-4 acres to run cow/calfs 365 days..

could you use some of your grain yourself and fatten out cattle that are born there? might make more money putting grain through a feeder than selling it outright. I know oats and wheat and barley isn't as efficient as corn but it's a thought
