To explain the first one, when the baker had to cook and place its baguettes to sell them to the village he was living in, he had to place one upside down for the reason that it was kept for the executioner. Being an executioner back then was a dirty job and many thought it was bringing curses and bad luck. And it stayed as a "common rule" because of that.

if the bread is stale, cut it, put in milk, then in eggs (mix the eggs), then cool it in a frying pan (not sure how it's called Google doesn't really help), and then add a bit of sugar or honey. pain perdu. best thing ever
