@whimsysoul: 9 things I'm doing BEFORE I leave for Japan tomorrow to make sure we have the best and smoothest trip possible!! 1. Fill out immigration forms ahead of time 2. Download Suica to my iPhone and load it up (Android users will have to get a card at a machine upon arrival) 3. Clearing out memory cards and phone space since we all know I'll be taking a LOT of photos in Japan! 4. Downloading a bunch of helpful apps, including: Tablelog, Flush, Go, KuliKuli, Payke, smartEX App, Ramen beat, Japan Travel, JapanWifi. I'll do a follow up after to see what was handy and what wasn't! 5. Pre-book your trains and ticketed attractions like TeamLabs! Heavy on the trains, I booked one day and it only had 4 seats left 6. Double check if any of those tickets need to be printed out and do that before you leave. Or if they are Live QR codes only, etc. 7. Pack a coin purse 8. Make a list of what you want to buy so you can focus and not get sidetracked 9. Download Google Maps Offline. I often can't get good cell signal deep in the train systems and I want to make sure I can still get directions. 🇯🇵 What else would you add? I can't WAIT to show you around Japan! Take a bag to keep trash in your purse. There are no trash cans. Get a stamp book early so you can take advantage of all the stamp collectors for a nice souvenir.

Don’t worry about having a coin bag right away.. buy one in Japan! Also be ready to buy a hand towel. You will need it after using restrooms. Not all of them have a place to dry hands.

If you have allergies, learn to say “I am allergic to ___” and also recognize the kanji for it. And have it written somewhere in your notes just in case they don’t understand you and need to read it!

Use Klook app to book your tours! Make a list of foods you want to eat, instead of making a list of restaurants to go to.

The physical suica card is a great souvenir. Also can get a cool holder for it.

Yeah doing the form in advance isnt any quicker. But it will save you the headache of having to fill out the form while your waiting in line. But its the same line regardless

I guess it depends on what you’re planning on doing but you don’t have to use cash. 95% of places take visa, mastercard, amex, etc. I live here and we’ve only ever used cash for tolls or if we had it left over from tolls.

Know the local customs! Don’t eat while walking in the sidewalk, for example.

regarding tickets, some events specifically have you go to Lawson to have you print them out there. this is very simple there’s a machine and most ticket emails tell you how to acquire them (you get a print out and take it to the counter and the cashier handles the rest. i went to an event at the sumo arena and this was very easy to get the day before)
