@dubigthings: Four days out from my preventative double mastectomy. I’ve read, researched, talked to hundreds of women, and now it’s officially go time. If you’ve been through this, I would love any tips, tricks, must-haves, or things you wish you knew to make recovery smoother. #Previvor #MastectomyJourney #BARD1 #WomenSupportingWomen #DoubleMastectomy

Hey! I’m about 3 weeks post op…best advice I can give is if you’re able to get a compression type vest, it’s the best thing and mine had pockets for my drains too!

I l9ve my Squishmallow pillows! They mold around your surgical area and allow me to ALMOST sleep on my side! However, I am still hooked on them!

Request a nerve block it helps so much with pain management after surgery! Don’t stress out too much mine wasn’t as bad as I had hyped myself up thinking.

Take the pain meds but also start Miralax or colace right after. I was already sore and miserable then I couldn't go because of the anesthesia and pain killers.

Alcohol swabs to help with milking the drains. Lots of rest and lots of water! Stay on top of pain meds but also meds to help with constipation. 😞 Had mine on 9/16. Doing great. Had my second chemo treatment yesterday.

you can wear a t shirt, put the drains thru the sleeves and pin them to front of the t shirt. then wear a top over it. the extra shirt will keep you warm. I was not prepared for how much cooler I was after my bilateral. also, ask for flexeril, the muscle spasms/guarding was the worst part (aside from the drains) and it helped a lot. I only needed it for a few days. good luck!

I had a double mastectomy in 2020. Lots of great advice above. Adding on, tons of yogurt. You will be on antibiotics as long as you have drains in. I had them for 3 weeks. Yeast infections when you can’t move your arms (trex arms, no lifting) is HORRIBLE. Wish someone warned me in advance. Can’t take diflucan until after antibiotics are done or it will reoccur. So load up on probiotics and yogurt.
