@realnicganea: My hot water kept going from warm to hot, so I started digging. Turns out the heating element was dead. Drained the tank, opened it up, cleaned the calcium, and replaced the element. Do NOT buy the cheap “heating element removal tool.” Trash. Use a 36mm automotive socket with a breaker bar it’s the only thing that works. Vacuumed the sediment with a shop-vac + ¼” tube extension, swapped the element, sealed it with gray Teflon (fast tape), and boom fixed. If you ever wondered how to DIY a failing water heater? This is your guide. #H#HomeRepairD#DIYFixW#WaterHeaterC#ChefLifeAtHomeProblemSolving

Isaiahq0 :
I've replaced entire water heaters and multiple heating elements. It is a ton cheaper to replace a heating element than buying a new water heater or hiring someone to replace it either.

done that after the element blew while it was -30c outside, the bugger was so stuck it twisted off. had to drill out the core and use a sawblade to cut a piece of the thread out.
