@thearkvetclinicltd: Join our Head Vet and Head of Exotics Dr Madonna Livingstone as she demonstrates how to safely trim incisor teeth of a guinea pig conscious! This is a totally painless procedure - if performed correctly. Meet Squeak, he has been coming to us for assistance in managing his dental disease! He is the loveliest boy, although during this procedure you will see the standard guinea pig sass, but he is very quick to forgive as he loves cuddles🥰🥰 Dental disease is a very common ailment in guinea pigs. It can be caused due to pain, diet, infections, age related changes etc. It can be treated with regular check ups, dental treatment as required, and pain management. this is such a great option. I have heard of vets charging up to $5,000 to do this under anesthesia. ridiculous!!

The Ark Veterinary Clinic Ltd. :
Squeak was referred to our practice due to his dental disease which is secondary to chronic pain. He has had skull X-rays and regular anaesthetics to shorten his cheek teeth and incisors, but his incisors grow too quickly despite having a good diet. This forces his mouth open making his cheek teeth overgrow faster. Regular trimming of his incisors using a diamond cutting disc helps reduce the frequency of his dental operations. As you can see, apart from the normal piggy sass, Squeak is not harmed at all throughout this procedure. We have created this page to hopefully act as an educational aid for owners and other veterinary staff. We welcome any and all questions and will be happy to answer them as best as we can! We ask that any questions brought to this page are done so in a respectful manner🤍
