I haven’t been to the doctor in over 3 years, not because morning is wrong because there certainly is, I just know there is no point. Add to the fact that trying to get an appointment is a fight to get in the first place, I just don’t have the fight in me

I just get told my problems are from my weight. Not the family history of migraines being from tumours or skin cancer

I know this is a very general sweeping statement, however, whenever I have seen a male gp this is very much the experience I have... I have many medical conditions that mean I have had to see doctors alot over the course of my life and if I'm honest, I will now only ever see a female GP because my experience with them has always been very positive. 🫂

I found going to a male doctor, they tend to take me more seriously.

after I had surgery i was in extreme pain and they did some tests and when I read the notes of the appointment the Dr wrote that its probably just in my head. after 6 months of begging for more tests I was finally diagnosed with Bile acid Malabsorption.
I also had an allergic reaction to the contrast and they said its probably not that bc its very rare and then when I had the allergy testing done then it was confirmed I was allergic to it.

My new gp is amazing but in terms of my hospital appointments I can't remember the last time I didn't end up in tears of frustration afterwards the gaslighting is unbelievable & despite my untreated gynae issues my last 2 appointments have resulted in them just telling me having a baby might help my symptoms, part of me feels ashamed but as someone with no issues being single I am now looking for a ring after being advised by other patients to make it look like you are married/engaged & maybe they will care, because I am feeling so unwell I'm genuinely worried that whatever going on in my body is going to finish me off

It's that do I look well enough to be taken seriously but sick enough to be believed. It's exhausting. Every time I have investigations I still think they'll find nothing! Even though I've had 3 excision surgeries. It messes with your mindset when for years you're told it's all in your head 😭💛

my mum has been in pain for over 40 years. she asked The doctor for a letter so she could have a private MRI, The doctors refused to do the letter and told her not to waste her money and sent her for tests she already had done and showed nothing.

me and hubby have both been to the doctor's for the same issue this year, I went in may, he went in July, at the start of October he had a scan at the hospital, I'm still waiting 🙄 gp basically dismissed my concern but said she would put a referral in for me if it made me feel better. he was listened too and referred straight away

I’m currently being referred to a neurosurgeon for a condition, and the only reason that happened is because I told them that’s what was going to happen and I pushed and was on there back! With a list of symptoms, a diary of 3 years of why, and it’s still been 2 years since that initial appointment to now!

my mom is my quarterback anytime I have to go she is with me, because as an older woman they take her more seriously than me, she is there to have my back and even like this we struggle to get the diagnosis

Even as a clinician I get dismissed by some doctors (not all, some actually listen to me). I would never treat a patient how some of these doctors treat women.

I’ve helped my partner advocate for himself a few times. For physical issues, no worries. It’s a bit different for mental health though I think

My GP missed my daughter’s cancer when she was 7. She’s now 20 and doing amazing. But when I tell you I don’t play when it comes to them not listening. Oh you best believe they are doing exactly what I want them to. Be firm and be direct make it clear you are not leaving until you feel seen and heard. ❤

100%, had an appointment at hospital about "possible" Endometriosis after 15 years of being fobbed off and told its normal/mental/loose weight. I had 7 sheets of timelines/point to make/symptoms and I was there 5 minutes and before I even said anything on the list he was like "so yeah Endometriosis, we have 3 options which one? i can get the ball rolling today" I went in expecting to have to beg and thought I would be discharged and sent home again so was in shock and hadn't even thought about if they actually offered help and what is woukd choose 😂
