@betterparentingdaily: 💛We don’t yell at children because yelling doesn’t create respect… it creates fear. Secure parents know that. Erika Komisar explains how when we stay calm, they learn calm. When we regulate, they borrow our nervous system until they can regulate on their own. That’s how secure kids are built. Not through volume… through connection. Your tone becomes their inner voice. Your presence becomes their safety. Your calm becomes their confidence. This is why secure parents raise secure children. 💛 Follow @betterparentingdaily for more science-backed parenting truths that challenge outdated advice. Hey everyone who loses their patience with children during the 4 PM to bedtime hours, you are still a good parent. Give yourself grace!

you lost me in the beginning. I am healthier than I was. I'm sober, but learning to love myself is a whole nother beast. atop anger, anxiety/grief, and learning patience I'm proud when I do have the moments of calm redirect with them.

Sorry.. My child will get yelled at IF they do wrong. They will get yelled at because they know right from wrong.

The lack of yelling at the children is a result of the person feeling good about themselves. So don't say don't yell at your children, say learn how to feel good about yourself

Its also okay to apologize to your child if you make a mistake even while theyre still children. Too many people let pride ruin their relationships with their kids.

I used to scream at my kids daily. I worked on myself and I never ever scream anymore if I can help it. Once every few months I lose my mind and girl I get it. The self regulating so they can learn to self regulate is hard. I was yelling at my girls and I looked at them while I was yelling and caught my oldest eyes full of fear before she burst into tears. I remember thinking to myself while still yelling… when she looks at me like this, what kind of monster does she see? I broke down and cried and hugged and said sorry. That my reaction was not okay but LORD. It can be rough. Especially on single mamas. We just try to be better. I come from a line of screamers so loud they’d shake the house. I try to Break the generational patterns. We are the ones to change things. We HAVE to put in the work for our babies. Even if we scream. What matters is realizing our mistakes… apologizing and explaining. Being there emotionally for them even when we are breaking. It’s work. It’s growth. It’s hard. They are worth it. If you are still learning ITS OKAY. Learning is health.

Best part of being a single Dad. No one yells in my home, no slam doors. I lead my girls with Love like Jesus did and they follow.

Feel so bad I yelled at both of my kids all the time. Partly is because I was a single parent. The other part was because they never listened. They’re both super successful today, but I know it did affect them in someway. I never spank them and did give them timeouts. I feel bad today that I did yell at them. He was really hard raising two kids both with ADHD and one with ODD. I wish today I was more patient. Unfortunately, I worked a lot of hours and was very tired after work.
