When my mom had cancer, we had some very kind people bring us food, but one lady brought pizza and like 5 boxes of cereal. It was amazing because we had tons of leftovers, but no breakfasts.

disagree with choices- best part of meal train imo is that is just magically shows up - pick something yourself, it will be appreciated regardless of what they ate last night imo

also - consider any other kids in the house. bring a couple grilled cheeses or something if you’re bringing something they haven’t had before

My best friends prepped a veggie tray and it was probably my favorite thing that came through the house

All of this! I also add a disposable tray full of fresh fruit, which is a breath of fresh air when you’re back to back in casseroles. So many moms text me after with happy tears over some berries and oranges!

Add some prepped fruit, grab and go snacks, and breakfast tacos wrapped in foil!

And #4 you drop it on the front porch, leave, then text “just dropped it off! Enjoy!”

Also, if you’re like me and don’t cook for other people- Olive Garden (or other chains) family meal is a GREAT option. It was a ton of food, reheated so easily, and came with utensils down to disposable salad tongs.

One of my friends gave me 3 options to pick from after I had my third baby and I thought that was the best idea ever 🤍🤍

The best thing someone dropped off after my son died was disposable everything. Plates, cups, napkins, utensils, tissue. It was one less thing to deal with.

VEGETABLES. I got so many carbs and pastas (which are nice!) when postpartum and when a friend texted and asked if I’d be interested in a “power chicken salad, packed with veggies, easy to eat with one hand.” I jumped at it and make something similar for everyone now. I do ask, but most people have agreed a veg would be nice!

Whenever she says “oh whatever is fine, you choose!” I stalk her Pinterest page and find a recently pinned recipe!

I like to ask what she doesn’t want to eat or what she’s tired of. Much easier than asking what she wants

And also we are absolutely NOT going to ghost her bc that happened to me after my first child was born - the girl who signed up for that day literally vanished into thin air. We never heard from her again. It was CRAZY 😭

The choice ideas is a good one. My husband and I still occasionally talk about the time someone brought us a tuna casserole and we pitched the entire thing in the trash (this was 20 years ago). Horrible waste, I know. We just couldn't eat that thing.

I always bring a breakfast casserole and an extra meal that can go in the freezer on top of the meal

My mother in law with my first pregnancy dropped off a box of all of my personal favorites (which is basically fried chicken & allll the fixings) & she also made cookies & everything was disposable, sent with plates, silverware & she even sent homemade sweet tea. She wrote little notes on every single item with prayers & words of encouragement. It was MUCH NEEDED having my son in the hospital & having to heal from my c section.

bonus points if you bring another meal for the freezer that she can pull out any time they need it!
