Instead of? I think you need to put vicar back in its proper kingdom context. The vicar was the one who held the kingdom down until the King returned to his throne.

king david appointed a gatekeeper and told him “whatever you shut shall not be opened, whatever you open shall not be shut” that is the alhabayit who is the right hand man of the king. Jesus fulfilled this position in Peter, told him what you bind on earth is bound in heaven, what is bound in heaven is bound on earth. the pope is the gatekeeper, the right hand man to Jesus. that’s the biblical history to the pope.

john the baptist had nothing to do with the pope. Timothy 3 15 the church is the pilar and foundation of the truth. The pope does not take the place Of Jesus on earth He is his servant by taking care of his church untill he comes back

That’s not what vicar means?!? Are you kidding? Google is free, and vicar of Christ is 100% biblical. In Isaiah 22:22, God gives Eliakim “the key of the house of David”—a symbol of royal authority. Whoever holds the key has the power to open and shut, meaning real governance, stewardship, and the ability to make binding decisions on behalf of the king. In Matthew 16:19, Jesus deliberately echoes this imagery when He gives Peter “the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” By using the same “key” metaphor, Jesus establishes Peter as the new chief steward in His kingdom—the one with authority to “bind and loose,” which in Jewish context means making authoritative judgments and teachings. Jesus is presenting Peter as the fulfillment and New Covenant parallel of Eliakim, entrusted with the king’s authority, not personal power, but a share in Christ’s own governance of the Church. This shows that Peter receives a real, divinely backed leadership role, rooted in the Old Testament model God Himself established.

Im not Catholic but, Some Catholics online (especially trad or extremist groups) say: “No submission to the pope = no salvation.” This is NOT official Catholic teaching. It’s like Christians on TikTok saying “If you don’t say the sinner’s prayer word-for-word you’re damned.” It’s just people adding rules God didn’t give. Real truth summary • “Vicar of Christ” = earthly representative/leader, not replacement for Jesus. • Not a salvation requirement. • Mostly a title about church organization.

Catholic practice is closest, structurally, to the Second Temple priestly system and the Pharisaic–Sanhedrin model.

Also 'instead' of Christ doesn't mean 'replaces' Christ, but in the 'stead' of his physical absence..Christ is the head, the bishop of Rome, his delgated vice regent. God has always had leaders that spoke for him with and to his people..ALL through scripture..prots just can't claim that authority because they left it..

Only a close relationship with Jesus and being born of the Spirit will save you. When you are born again you understand that most religious leaders are not of God and highly hierarchical religious institutions are just cults misusing God's name and have nothing to do with Him.

Peter was commissioned by Christ after John the baptist to a prime leadership role in the church..someone with your attitude would not have done well in the apostolic age, where the apostles, with Peter as their chief, held God's place on earth among those who believe, 'He who hears you (the apostles) hears me (Christ)'. and the authority to 'bind' and 'loose' and forgive sins, matt16:18, 18:18, jn.20:23..among other God given gifts..read Paul's writing where he corrects and leads with his apostolic authority the believers, and does not shy away from saying it..in a loving servant attitude of course..as they were called to do..they appointed successors in their ministries..Peter's being that of a royal steward, vice regent, Key holder, delegated by the King himself..Is.22/Matt16:18...

RCs pick and choose what to believe. Marian dogmas? Yup. Ex cathedra. An atheist dies but allows his children baptized? Heaven. Heresy? Posthumously anathematize. Just kinda do whatever you want.

In the Bible, Jesus gives Peter the keys and authority in Matthew 16:18-19, where he says, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven". Jesus also grants Peter the authority to "strengthen your brethren" and "feed my sheep" in Luke 22:31-32 and John 21:15-17, after Peter's denial and restoration. Matthew 16:18-19 After Peter confesses Jesus as the Messiah, Jesus declares he will build his Church on Peter, calling him "rock" (Kepha in Aramaic). He then promises Peter the "keys of the kingdom of heaven," which Catholics interpret as a symbol of supreme authority to govern the Church. The power "to bind and loose" is given to Peter, signifying his authority to make binding decisions in spiritual matters. Luke 22:31-32 Before his crucifixion, Jesus tells Peter that Satan has asked to sift him like wheat, but he has prayed for Peter's faith to not fail. He then instructs Peter to "when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren". This is seen as a charge for Peter to lead and guide the other apostles in their faith. John 21:15-17 After the Resurrection, Jesus asks Peter three times, "Do you love me more than these?". In response to Peter's threefold affirmation, Jesus gives him the command, "Feed my sheep". Catholics interpret this as restoring Peter to his leadership role and giving him the authority to shepherd the entire flock of the Church, including the other apostles

And yet the history of the popes is riddled in deceit, murder ( including competing popes) and changing doctrine. Ever notice that every occult has a leader who claimed authority over Gods word?

Well God doesn’t see it that way, nor does the Bible have any verses making such a claim. The Bible ACTUALLY says “God is NOT a respecter of persons”, Acts 10:34, meaning we are all EQUAL in God’s eyes. No one is more holy than anyone else, they just THINK they are more holy than you. 🙄

🤣……. No! All bishops have authority but the final Authority is the Pope. Vivar means representative not substitute 🤣. Where do you get these wild statements??? Another Title of the Pope is the Servant of the Servants of God, it speaks to the ending of John when Jesus asks Peter to strengthen his brothers. Is the Pope a representative of God? Yes because he represents Christ and Christ is God, but that’s the same for any Bishop with in his Diocese.

Why do you take Catholics accountable for your ignorance? Jesus who is the foundation of Christianity established the office of St. Peter ( Matthew 16:18-19 and John 21:15-17) , with Perpetual and Authority but here with your spiritual pride you are challenging the Christ and the Bible. Even in the Old Testament God had representatives; Moses, Joshua, Judges and Kings and Catholic is no different from this but it's your misconception because of hatred and pride.
