@judygarlandestate: We were incredibly honoured to have been invited by The Academy Museum of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to spend some time with the original #RubySlippers, worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz”. These (#7) shoes, known as the “Witches Shoes”, are believed to have been used only during close ups, hence their wonderful condition. We got to spend some time up close & personal with the slippers, and with the team that looks after them, while learning all about their conservation. And no, we didn’t get to try them on! 😆 We were also thrilled to have been given a brilliant tour of the #AcademyMuseum, by the wonderful Matt Severson. It was a touching moment for both of us, getting to experience this from two different perspectives. For Vanessa, the slippers represent her grandmother’s hard work, life at MGM, and a turning point in her career that has shaped her family to this day. For Pat, the slippers represent childhood nostalgia, and the ignition of a passion to preserve the legacy of such a special woman. It’s crazy that one pair of shoes has impacted so many lives and can mean so much to so many, for different reasons! We’d both like to say thank you very much to Renee and Matt at @theacademy + @academyMuseum, and all who made this special moment possible!
