If you want measurements, it’s usually 1 cup of uncooked rice to 1 and a half cup water for jasmine rice (1:1.5 ratio). And 1:1 ratio for medium rice/sticky rice. Hope that helps. 🙂

the amount of water depends on the amount and type of rice. I'm curious about the knuckle thing - do you always cook the same amount?

As an Asian, I commend you for finally learning the ancient art of cooking rice... the electric rice cooker. 😂

As an Asian man that has been in a couple of long term relationships with white girls, the rice cooking conversation is always a major milestone 🤔

Rinsing the rice isn’t gonna cause that gooey nasty glop, your words😅. You cooked it how you would cook minute rice, which is way different than cooking regular white rice. Not rinsing rice will give it a different taste

Well I did learn something new. I’ll let it soak for 30 minutes and see if it’s any different then cooking right away after rinsing. Thanks for the tip.

you don't HAVE to rinse it. you need to know how to cook it. also, try broken rice.

The nuckle stuff you only have to really do once and just look where the water lvl is like is it under the 4 over the 5 then all you do is fill it to that line for all your future rice. But then again I make a blanket 4cups no matter how much I actually need.

For Asian dishes. For Mexican dishes you fry the uncooked rice first.

Ran to the comments about the knuckle measurement. Touch finger to the top of rice, water to first joint line on index finger. not bottom of rice pot.

I know there quite vocal people that say you should wash your rice but from my experience of washing and not washing the taste remains the same. I don’t about other parts of the world where perhaps it’s prudent to wash the rice. 🍚

Rinse 3 times is enough. I believe jasmine rice has fragrance to make rice smell better. If you rinse too much you may rinse out the fragrance

Kristen, you don’t need to rinse the rice too much. In my family in Vietnam, we only rinse it 2-3 times, because the cloudy water actually contains nutrients
