@seratajima: Exciting tech breakthrough in China. Researchers achieved the first-ever thorium fuel conversion in molten salt reactor confirming technical feasibility. The 2-megawatt system in Gansu Province is the only operational molten-salt reactor in the world loaded with thorium fuel. #climatetech #venturecapital #nuclear #deeptech #energy
Correction China invented the thorium reactor, the US did not. The US researched thorium reactors but did not pursue it and never invented a thorium reactor. To say the the US invented it is incorrect and will confuse people.

These reactors were rejected in the US because they didn’t create weapons grade byproducts. Capitalism is a death cult.

Nuclear engineer here and it’s all meaningless unless it is fully operational. It’s just research. Molten salt is insanely difficult to work with and it corrodes everything. Maybe they’ll get it to work but it will be much harder to operate.

I remember researching about thorium MSRs back in college…it’s a pity that there is so much red tape holding back new and cleaner nuclear power in the US

Alvin Weinberg made the light water reactor and the MSR. We could withdraw the plutonium from the light water reactor for nuclear bombs. What I would like to know is if there is a hot cell to pull molybdenum/technetium and strontium/rubidium generators

No other country, except for China has succeeded because the other countries are capitalist. They are constrained by the profit motive, whereas China funds these efforts.

It is not new. A 2 mw reactor? Two reactors at 3 mile island produced 800mw. And molton salt proof of concept proves nothimg. 2035. Lol A fusion reactor will exist earlier.
