I feel that many people are missing the point of Geto by stating he's simply a representation of depression. Geto is a representation of Victimization. Geto was born into a system that placed his abilities as the innate protector of the common folk. In an attempt to connect with the systems around him, he played this part without question, tying it to his very identity. When questions and doubt seeped in, Geto didn't blame the system that placed those harsh expectations on him, but rather internalized the doubt, suffering, and hatred until it was too much. If Yuki hadn't influenced Geto and provided a perspective outside his hegemonic view, he would have 100% committed. That said, this influence allowed Geto to break past himself and displace the responsibility onto common folk rather than the system that forced a child to stand in front of a never-ending war.
