30-year HIT guy here, former phone client of Mentzer’s. HIT is a set of principles, not a workout. Brief (less than an hour or less), Intense Effort, Progressive overload, Infrequent (3 or fewer times per week), and enough rest. That’s it. Within those parameters are tons of variability! The bottom line is the primary factor stimulating growth is intensity is effort, and if you are training hard enough (most people don’t), then you need rest to recover. Not just the body part but the whole nervous system. Working out hard is physically stressful, and the body needs to recover fully. If you are natty this takes much longer. That’s why ppl on gear can work out so often and make progress…they recover way, way faster. So the 2 primary mistakes almost every makes is they don’t work out with enough effort (don’t mistake this for time spent in the gym…time and effort are inversely proportional), and if they do workout hard enough, they don’t give themselves enough recovery time .

Trained 3 days a week and gained a lot more muscle and strength. Too many days = too much volume and not allowing body to recover

This is the only gym take I don’t really understand. I know crazy workout volume is t optimal but it seems like 6 days of working out would yield more results than 3 days

This is advanced training. I hit every body part once a week with high volume (except arms) the results have been tremendous. More rest, more gains, more time to diet properly. Keep in mind you have to know how to train, train with intensity, when to apply intensity, when to fail, when to keep reps In reserve, how to avoid cooking your CNS
