When people ask why I’m in a wheelchair, (and trust me, sometimes they ask before they even ask my name), it’s usually followed with… “I’m sorry.” And I always pause, because… sorry for what? I get it, though. Before I was disabled, I had my own assumptions too. I thought disability meant: •you don’t live a full life •you can’t work •you can’t have a family •you can’t travel or do big things I had no idea people with disabilities were athletes. Competing professionally. Building businesses. Leading teams. Being powerful as hell. My perception of disability was the problem… not disability itself. Because here’s what most people don’t see: Every day we solve problems most people never even think about. Simple tasks like sweeping, dishes, laundry… can take double, triple, quadruple the time. Not because we’re “less than.” Because we have to be more strategic. More creative. More resilient. And honestly? I still wouldn’t change it. This wheelchair has given me more than my walking legs ever could. The perspective. The grit. The way I see the world. The way I move through the world. The standards I hold myself to. I can’t undo any of that and I wouldn’t want to. It’s my SUPERPOWER. So here’s my challenge: The next time you see someone with a disability, don’t pity them. Be inspired. Not because we’re “special.” But because we’re proof that life can hit you hard… and you can still build something incredible. That’s the whole point of what I do. To remind people that regardless of your ability, your background, or what you’ve been through… you still have the power to create a life you love. It’s just a question of how willing you are to work for it.
