@us4id: Then vs now. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Lánchíd) in Budapest was destroyed during World War II, specifically on January 18, 1945, by retreating German troops during the Siege of Budapest. Only the towers remained after the explosion, and all other bridges in the city were also destroyed. Reconstruction efforts began in 1947, and the bridge was rebuilt and reopened to the public on November 20, 1949, exactly one hundred years after its original inauguration. #budapest #ww2 #hungary #travel #lánchíd
