For me ADHD meds make autism more pronounced, rather be without

Finally got medicated. Life was amazing. Perimenopause has now plunged me right back into the swamp. No fun!

But also- meds aren’t an “easy fix”! They help, but being medicated for adhd doesn’t mean you’re no longer disabled.

Yes it’s like being a different person. A person who can just do stuff.

And then add perimenopause to the mix—medication stops working and you no longer recognize yourself especially because you don’t understand why the meds stopped working. Start HRT and meds start working again. Sharing so no one else has to go through what I went through with medical gaslighting.

I’ll attest to it. Finally being diagnosed at my big age, attempting to force new habits to try to cope, and then getting medication has really changed a lot at work. It still takes me a while, but my actual deliverables are stronger.

So I got on medication for ADHD and got even depressed. No more monologue, my random playlist was gone. I felt almost robotic, too structure, smile was rehearsed. That year, my spark died to the point my therapist noticed. She said something was missing then I told her it felt too quiet, my mind was silent, expecting something I lost. She grew concerned and slowly took me off the medication. I thrive in my ADHD I just built habits that help me manage it. I like the little random tune playing in my head or little brain rot I would blurt out from time to time. I feel like myself with ADHD. So I’m not promoting anyone not taking their medications, I’m just sharing my experiences.

Omg this. Finally medicated and diagnosed last year!! I’m thankful 😭 I do feel betrayed of all the years before. Trauma-informed therapy has been helpful along with meds.

I really want to take medication vs supplements just to see if my life will be easier because I am struggling to finish a degree that should only take me 4yrs to complete but is taking me longer because I start and stop.
