A traditional Chief, carried in a palanquin at a Durbar, choosing to reverence the Bible and publicly display it as the greatest possession he could showcase. It made me pause and ask myself: Am I doing enough as a Christian to show Christ? He may be a Christian, but his throne and position are deeply rooted in traditionalism. Yet, on a day when he could have chosen to display and amplify the symbols, values and traditions of his heritage, he chose instead to publicly honour the Word of God. That spoke loudly to me. Sometimes, we who profess Christ have every opportunity to make Him known, yet we become silent. We hide our faith when it should be visible. We compromise when we should stand. We are careful about being identified with Christ when Christ was never ashamed to identify with us. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ…” — Romans 1:16 This reminded me that Christianity is not merely something we believe in private. Christ must be seen in us, through us, and in the choices we make. If a man standing in the midst of a deeply traditional setting can lift the Bible and make Christ visible, what excuse do I have? Lord, help me to do better. Help me to represent You boldly. Help me never to be ashamed of You. And wherever You place me, may my life point people back to Christ. May Christ be the greatest possession we ever showcase. ✝️📖
