Google “holiday expert flight delay” for our ultimate guide on what you need to know ✈️ ⚠️ WHAT FLIGHTS ARE COVERED BY UK LAW ⚠️ The rights I’m gonna chat about here are only relevant to flights that are: 🛫 departing from an airport in the UK on any airline 🛬 arriving at an airport in the UK on an EU or UK airline 🛬arriving at an airport in the EU on a UK airline ⚠️ HOW LONG DOES MY FLIGHT NEED TO BE DELAYED FOR TO GET CARE & ASSISTANCE? ⚠️ For your care & assistance rights to kick in, the delay is first based on your wait time: SHORT HAUL (flight of under 1500km) - more than 2 hours MEDIUM HAUL (1500 - 3500km) - more than 3 hours LONG-HAUL (over 3500km) - more than 4 hours ⚠️ WHAT IS CARE & ASSISTANCE? ⚠️ Your airline must provide: * A ‘reasonable’ amount of food and drink via voucher * A means for you to communicate through call & email * Accommodation if you are delayed overnight * Transport to and from the accommodation ⚠️ HOW DOES THAT WORK IN PRACTICE? ⚠️ Whilst in theory, the airline should sort all of this out for you, often passengers are left to fend for themselves so make sure you keep your costs reasonable and keep receipts of EVERYTHING. ⚠️ WHAT ABOUT COMPENSATION? ⚠️ 
If your flights arrives at your destination more than 3 hours late, they may have to provide compensation if the delay was their fault. The amount you get is based on the length of your flight: 💰 SHORT HAUL - £220 💰 MEDIUM HAUL - £350 💰 LONG-HAUL - £520 But here’s the thing that lots of people do not realise. ‘Arriving’ is not based on landing but the time the first door opens!! ⚠️ HOW DO YOU CLAIM ANY MONEY OWED? ⚠️ For both expenses and compensation, airlines will have to a dedicated page on their website with the details on how you can claim your money back.
