A very important day. I have long been campaigning for better maternity care and recognition and support of the tens of thousands of women who experience birth trauma every year. My first birth was dreadful. And unfortunately, I am far from alone with the physical and mental trauma sustained which could’ve been avoided. This is not about blame - there are many exceptional professionals going above & beyond - but it’s about recognising this is a very real issue which is sadly and shockingly on the increase. And crucially implementing actual change. Women are being let down, maternity care workers are being let down facing burnout due to understaffing, and it is simply not ok to just talk about it and put up with it whilst the impact continues with far reaching consequences. To women, to fathers, to children, to families, to relationships, to society…. I was honoured to speak at The Houses of Parliament alongside some incredibly brave women, Jo, Gabriela, & Lauren who bravely shared their experiences including baby loss, forceps trauma, not being listened to, and substandard care and facilities. And why should anyone care? Because we have ALL been born. So literally everyone is affected. #birthtrauma #bta #birthtraumaawareness #selfgrowth
