On the evening of April 1, 2024, 19-year-old college student Sade Robinson left her apartment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to go on a first date with 33-year-old former bartender Maxwell Anderson. The pair met at a local seafood restaurant before continuing to other venues downtown. When Sade failed to arrive for her scheduled shift the following morning at a local pizza restaurant, concerned co-workers and family members immediately attempted to reach her. Hours later, Milwaukee police discovered Sade’s vehicle torched and abandoned in an alley behind an apartment building, setting off an urgent missing-persons investigation. Investigators examining the burnt vehicle quickly noticed a crucial physical clue: the driver’s seat had been pushed far back to accommodate someone over six feet tall, ruling out the 5-foot tall teenager as the last driver. By obtaining historical tracking data from Sade’s Life360 mobile app, detectives mapped out her final hours. The data showed her phone traveling to Anderson’s Pewaukee residence, then to a park along the Lake Michigan shoreline before sunrise, and finally to the alley where her car was set on fire, precisely matching surveillance footage of Anderson walking away from the burning scene. The search took a tragic turn later that same day when park visitors discovered human remains discarded near the edge of Lake Michigan in Warnimont Park. Over the following weeks, regional recovery teams and beach walkers uncovered additional biological remains along various shorelines in Wisconsin and Illinois, which forensic DNA testing definitively matched to Sade. A search of Anderson’s residence and personal devices revealed specialized tools, blood evidence, and extensive attempts to destroy physical traces connecting him to the missing student. Law enforcement arrested Anderson on April 4, charging him with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating and hiding a corpse, and arson. During pretrial hearings and trial proceedings in Milwaukee County, prosecutors systematically dismantled the defense by presenting continuous digital timelines, public transit recordings, and high-definition surveillance footage documenting Anderson dragging items toward the lake in the pre-dawn hours. The overwhelming circumstantial and digital evidence painted a complete picture of an unprovoked, highly calculated act. Following a multi-day trial, a Milwaukee jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding Maxwell Anderson guilty on all counts. The presiding judge sentenced Anderson to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, describing his actions as exceptionally callous. The tragic loss mobilized widespread community vigils across Milwaukee and prompted active state legislative efforts to reform and accelerate notification protocols for missing young adults.
