@thesilentwitness1: Travis, a chimpanzee from Connecticut, USA, was adopted when he was just 3 days old by the couple Sandra and Jerome Herold. In 1995, the couple received a call from a breeder in Missouri informing them that the baby had arrived. With joy, the future owner of the primate went to pick him up. There, Sandra and Jerome met the chimpanzee, whom they named after the singer Travis Tritt. The monkey was extremely spoiled. As soon as they arrived home with him in their arms, they gave him a bottle and put him to sleep in a crib. Within a few months, he was already walking and learning "humanized" habits, such as using the toilet and "brushing his teeth" - behaviors displayed by the owners as signs of control, although this did not mean that Travis was truly tamed. Over time, Travis grew, gained a lot of weight, and lived comfortably with the couple, who even adapted the house for him. They believed they had the chimpanzee under complete control - an illusion that only those who have never dealt with wild animals can sustain. And one episode made that evident. In 2003, Travis escaped. He was in a car with his family when, without any warning, he snapped and started chasing a man. When the police arrived, officers lured the chimpanzee back into the vehicle several times, only for Travis to escape through another door. For hours, the police used biscuits and ice cream to lure him back. The owners said the animal was toilet trained and accustomed to sitting at the table to drink wine. In other words, he was supposedly a civilized animal. Luckily, Travis was rescued and no one was hurt. However, another event occurred on February 16, 2009. Unfortunately, this time, the result was tragic. That day, Travis was carrying the keys to the house of the couple who adopted him. Suddenly, he snapped. At that very moment, Charla Nash, a family friend, arrived at the residence and offered to help. She was carrying one of Travis's favorite toys. The primate went berserk upon seeing it. What followed was a blo0dbath. Travis att@cked Nash with extreme brut@lity, tearing off his hands, nose, lips, and eyelids. Desperate, Sandra tried to stop him with a butcher's kn!fe, without success. The victim was completely disfigured. Sandra's 911 call became one of the most disturbing calls ever recorded in the US, with her pleading for help while saying that Travis was "out of control" and that he was going to k!ll her friend. When the police arrived, Travis tried to break into a police car, even leaving parts of Charla's arm inside the police car during the chaos. He was sh0t d€ad instantly, after causing a huge m@ss@cre. An autopsy revealed that he had ingested Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication. Charla Nash survived, but faced extreme suffering. He underwent numerous surgeries and received a face transplant in 2011. His hands were also amput@ted. During the face transplant, there was an attempt to transplant two new hands, but serious complications prevented them from remaining, and both had to be removed. His case was considered by doctors to be one of the worst craniofacial injuries ever seen in a living patient. Charla's family sued Sandra Herold for $50 million. In 2012, they reached a settlement, and Charla received approximately $4 million. There were also attempts to hold the state liable, arguing that the att@ck was foreseeable - mainly because Connecticut authorities had been warned years earlier that Travis posed a serious risk and should not be living freely in a house. A few months after the att@ck, Travis's owner, Sandra Herold I, di€d of an aneurysm in 2010.
