as an environmental engineer who's actuall day job is reducing methane emissions, I would like to point out that the emissions from livestock are a strawman argument for the vegan environmentalists movements. there are significantly more practical and impactful solutions that can be implemented in the world, primarily more public transit use and destigmatizing it for rural and suburban areas.

considering that all the cows are grown in areas with abundance of grass and fresh air. I'd say no. they're carbon emissions just get taken up and is very beneficial. coming from an agronomist. I'd also like to raise the statement of what about the American bison? it was estimated that bison herds before Europeans settlers arrived were 30-60 million with some numbers going as high as 100 million. the US cattle numbers put it somewhere around 95 million. So we just replaced a vital natural source of CO2 for our grasslands
