@iamgertrudejordan: Caregivers, dementia is NOT a diagnosis!!!!!! Knowing the type of dementia that your loved one has will allow you to be proactive with their care. Dementia is the umbrella, and under that umbrella, there are different types of dementia. The most common is Alzheimer’s disease. The other types are Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Lewy body, mixed dementia, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease, Down syndrome, and Alzheimer’s disease, alcohol related dementia, Korsoff syndrome, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob. With so many types of dementia, your doctor has a responsibility to tell you which one your LO has been diagnosed with. Your LO’s medications, treatments, advocacy, services, specialists, support, and care plans depend on it. Don't stop advocating. Clarity IS care! incaseiforgetconsulting.com #dementia #alz #care #gertrudejordan #caregiver

JAK :
My father was initially diagnosed with Alzheimer's and several months later more testing was done and he did not have Alzheimer's! He actually has vascular dementia!

I’m sure someone somewhere needs to hear this? We have to ask more questions and be our own best advocates for elderly family members.
