Happened to me recently in Tesco, took the empty bottle to the check out to pay. Checkout assistant was confused why I gave him an empty bottle so explained myself and he made the decision to bin it and not charge me. Not all hero’s wear capes 💙🫶🏻💫

I carry glucose tablets. They help a lot. I’m not diabetic but I’m hypoglycemic

Just do it. It's what my dad does lol. If I have to then I'll just explain it for him. "He's type 1 diabetic & has low blood sugar." That's literally all it takes and they leave us alone 😂🤷♀️

as a formal retail worker, we usually can tell what’s going on but if you’re able to just let someone know what’s happening..most of us with humanity are more worried about your well being than a stolen coca-cola.

I'm not diabetic (been tested many times but they still can't tell me what's wrong 🙄) but I have blood sugar crashes quite often. my husband is type 1 so the car is always full of snacks. I never think to carry any woth me so have started putting a twix in my bag with "diabetic" written on it in marker pen. I just grab a coke & chug it then eat the twix fast, have found it sorts me out quite quick. I always pay for the coke once I'm steady again & most people are really understanding about it once you explain. I write on the twix just in case there ever comes a time when I have to explain & can't so I can just hold it up lol. thankfully I've not had that situation yet but my awkward anxiety brain & the fact I can crash pretty fast & not be able to explain myself sometimes means I need to do it just in case 😅

I’ve had hypoglycemia since I was 11, I’m 37 now. Having it happen while driving has been the scariest for me.

Drinking that soda before you pay for it is better than fainting. I’m hypoglycemic and have been through this. Glucose monitors are a life saver

I had a woman have a low sugar incident in Menards when I worked there she said “Honey I’m so sorry I have to drink a Coke I will pay you I promise.” I told her “please take your time I’m here for you and if you couldn’t buy that Coke I would buy it for you.” She in fact paid and felt much better after her drink 🤞❤️

Today we had a very understanding person at the pool canteen! Kiddo wanted a sausage roll and there was 1 left. I asked the lady if she could put it aside and keep it warm, gave the quick run down and she was so fine with it! So many times after a pre bolus something becomes sold out and then both me and the kid are left crying LOL

I worked at 711 and one of the first things they told me is if someone comes in needing sugar, give them the snickers(whatever the sugar may be just oddly specific candy bar for some reason) and don't worry about the payment.

I always carry glucose tabs or fruit snacks. They're in my purse, coat pockets, backpack, car, bedside table, etc. If I use some from one area, I restock. I did feel goofy eating a pack of my fruit snacks in the dairy section of Walmart the other day lol.
