@theoryofkhaos: Welcome to cult brand psychology (episode 30). ❤️🔥♟️ Psychology shows your customers aren’t broke - you just trained them to wait for a sale. It’s called Price Anchoring. The first price people see becomes the one they believe. 💡 For founders: If you want to master brand psychology and build a premium cult brand, Stop teaching your audience that full price isn’t real. Every time you run a sale, you train your audience to value your brand less. ▪️ Too many sales attract bargain hunters, not loyal fans ▪️ Frequent discounts ruin product trust ▪️ Premium brands protect their price perception More promotions won't fix a bad brand. If you have to discount to sell, you don’t have a pricing problem - you have a positioning & branding problem. #branding #cultbrand #brandpsychology #brandstrategy
When I work for Mcdonalds, they took away the dollar menu because they train customers to only shop the dollar menu. This is so true.

This reminds me of Bath and Body Works. Customers know the candle sale is coming, so they wait to stock up on candles until then, avoiding buying at full price.

Yasmin, what is your opinion when you launch a new brand, should you offer an opening offer or not?

Some brand raise the price before they offer a sale. The sale is often at or just under the standard price. This tactic is also harmful for a brand parception.

Bulk does this. I think it's also just their strategy. Frequent sales coincidentally when you need to restock

For many small businesses, constant discounts really can reset expectations, and tightening brand positioning often does more than cutting prices again.

This has been going on for years. You are right- brands train us to buy in deal. Dan’s equity goes out the window. It’s why my favorite toothpaste is whatever is on sale at Costco.
