@prettygrittytours: Do you know about Tacoma‘s connection to Jacques Cousteau? There’s a pretty significant amount of history here, certainly enough to do a deep dive on. ##wa##washington##History##tacoma##JacquesCousteau

Nobody talks about the third time he visited Tacoma in ‘95 where he had to stand in line at Frisko Freeze for what he said felt like “une éternité”. There weren’t even that many people ahead of him.

Growing up watching Jacques Cousteau I thought he was born looking old 😂 when his show would come on it was a family affair. We all were glued to the TV to see what creatures he would show us

I’m further north from you but growing up Jacques Custo we run around and see his name, didn’t he have a show on TV? Maybe what I watched that a lot.

It’s not surprising to me - as a diver who has dived all over the world, The Puget Sound is one of the best places on the planet for diving. The diversity of wildlife of our inlet sound is incredible. Just be sure to wear a thick wetsuit or a dry suit.

Yes, I am absolutely familiar with that. When he visited in 1986 my mom owned the Beach Lunch, the little diner/store connected to the Beach Tavern down at Titlow, and I was there all the time. It was a big deal, with the boats right there. Some of the crew even came on shore with their zodiac and would come into her diner. With the Giant Pacific Octopus in our waters and Galloping Gertie resting right near Titlow, Cousteau was rumored to say it was one of his favorite diving areas. My dad used to tell me that back in the 50s/60s my uncle used to dive down there and wrestle those octopus. I haven't thought about that in a long time.... Thanks for bringing up the memories.
