I think people have always been gay, they've just been demonized/villified for identifying as anything other than hetero in previous years. It's easy to forget that even lgbtq+ portrayal in the media had to be fought for, even "as recent as" in the 2010s. What I'm basically saying is that the graph lines would probably be flatter for a long time if people felt comfortable with being able to identify. You're right about the graphs/investments and that we should be skeptical of "projected" trends.

One thing that is often taboo to talk about because it's historically been used by homophobes as an accusation, is that I think a lot of this is people just experimenting, that for a decent chunk of them, it might actually be "just a phase". But we might actually be finally at a point where that's okay too. I think for a long time, queer people had to insist that being gay was an immutable fact of life, that it was something that couldn't be changed or "fixed" because convincing people of that was the only way to get them to stop forcefully trying to do exactly that and get a modicum of acceptance. But really, with how much people change in general over the course of their lives, with how complex sexuality and sexual attraction is, with how common it is especially for young people to try out identities that they don't stick with for the rest of their lives, why should this be different? I'm not saying this is the case for all or even most of these people in the trend. But if it is for some people, then that's okay too.

Feels a lot like the left-handedness trend when it stopped being considered evil.

there is an article in the Daily mail that uses this sort of logic to say that the economy of Lithuania will surpass the UK by 2030

It’s because our generation is more accepting than previous generations on average globally so more people are happy to be open

As a gay guy, even I know that I’m not 100%. I imagine most people aren’t.

This made me realise I am, in fact, Big Lesbian. I read the caption before watching the video and my first thought was “noooo some of us have to stay lesbians!”

More like young people are entering an increasingly accepting world compared to 10-20-30 years ago!

I think more bisexual people were hiding in closet as they can easily just be with the opposite gender and no one will question it. I guess it’s about an culture that’s more open for people to feel safe to say now they are bisexual
