why do people who use generative AI act like they’re doing brain surgery? “Educate myself on how to use AI” it’s literally typing commands into a little chat box—commands I can very easily put into my own brain, mind you. If you think it’s a difficult process to educate yourself on how to use something like that, idk what to tell you. I’ve never seen something done by generative AI that I (or another trained human professional) could not do better. And honestly, what are the generative AI users going to do when the bubble pops and they realize they’ve given away years of critical thinking skills for free and now THEY are the ones falling behind because they literally can’t communicate or think for themselves?

Engineer here. I will not be falling behind and I’m very educated on AI. Most people have no idea the actual use cases of AI and are hurting themselves. Chat boxes can literally lie to you and make stuff up. AI art/ photos literally steal from humans and are bad

I think there is intrinsic value in being able to do things by yourself, knowing how to summarize, research, create, etc. We are entering an era of extreme convenience and I fundamentally disagree with it. I think there's more value and importance in building up/maintaining the skills to do these things yourself than conveniently asking a flawed machine to do it for you

I think it depends what you use it for. Your brain is also a tool and if you don’t exercise it, it atrophies. Imagine laying on the couch and letting a robot go work out for you😂 same vibe but for ur brain.

Well for one thing, there’s a huge drain on the environment. For another, im a professional writer. I will not be using ai in any part of my process because it literally steals the work of other writers. Additionally, im more than capable of doing things like writing emails, creating schedules, and googling for research. Plus I don’t want my brain to atrophy. Doing things for yourself is good for your mind

well unless ai starts doing things that are useful and not insanely damaging to our planet, our minds, and our creativity then I won't be learning to use generative ai. what reason do I have exactly to generate any ai images? or to ask ai to write something for me because I'm too lazy? currently as it stands no one needs generative ai. I think ai images and ai generated essays and whatnot are completely useless. it doesn't benefit anyone, in fact it does more harm than good. I think people should focus on developing ai that is actually a useful tool instead of something to strip us from our creativity and intelligence. which is very possible, because there is plenty of ai that is NOT generative. ai isn't the issue, it's the fact it's stealing art and taking from existing images and text to create useless media. that's generative ai. ai is in a LOT of things, and it's not bad at all. but people tend to assume generative ai is the same thing when it's not

i actually used to use it in high school and now no longer will. in fact, i’ve begun to transition everything offline because it is way better that way. i no longer even stream music because i bought a cd player and cds. i don’t give a damn about being behind on ai; life is much better offline entirely. i read lots of books and i write everything on paper now and i’ve never been more clear minded and productive in my life. i don’t want a cell phone anymore either.

There is absolutely nothing that I would need AI for that I couldn’t do myself. I just choose to use my own brain instead of using AI for conversation, it’s that simple.
