How do you get a script read to even pitch? Labs? Black list? Emailing production companies? Do you need reps?

This is how I sold the first script I wrote and got into the WGA. It wasn’t a perfect script, I wasn’t a “great” writer but the concept was big enough to get offers and sold/produced to theatres. ESP in horror those big concepts are/were very sellable

Sales happen continuously in Hollywood, many people just don’t tell everyone. They silently celebrate their success solely or with a select intimate circle of friends. Be encouraged: “if you don’t get out of line, your turn will come!”

When you pitch, all investors wanna hear is “am I actually going to make money back on this”. For producers (I am one), when you pitch, they just gotta know if they can sell it and how they can sell it. HBO, Apple, etc. They’ll buy a solid idea then let you go develop it. It’s not that complicated

I think the way to look at it is can this script convince other people to get on board. Will a director, cast, and executives see the vision and want to say yes? Easy to pitch/get big ideas

She was lucky :) I pitched my script to a producer friend in LA who had his develop team send me an e mail back saying sorry at this moment it doesn’t fit our slate or something like it but the produced the movie in the same year even took the actress who was outlined in the script and pitch and slightly scripted the story sequence but kept all the main hooks of the script in painful detail the movie Untraceable with Diane Lane … I was to intimidated at that point in my career to seek legal ! But you live and learn and yes keep writing 🖋️
