@od_form: Getting the pin centered in a dowel is one of the hardest parts of making wood hinges. I drill a larger hole first, clamp the hardwood block in the drill press with Bessey, and keep it fixed while switching to a smaller bit. The first hole becomes a guide, so the bit hits the center and makes a clean starting point. Gluing the hinges is also tricky, and having enough strong clamps makes it much easier. I used @besseytool_official clamps 🗜️

It seems you have found a method that works for you. What I had previously seen was clamping the bit upside down in a drill press vise and putting the dowels in the chuck. You can see it used in a video by Pask Makes on youtube.
