@od_form: Getting the pin centered in a dowel is one of the hardest parts of making wood hinges. I drill a larger hole first, clamp the hardwood block in the drill press with Bessey, and keep it fixed while switching to a smaller bit. The first hole becomes a guide, so the bit hits the center and makes a clean starting point. Gluing the hinges is also tricky, and having enough strong clamps makes it much easier.
