@thesilentwitness1: On February 27, 2012, 17-year-old Thomas “TJ” Lane III entered the cafeteria of Chardon High School in Ohio, arm€d with a .22 caliber Ruger pist0l. Lane was not a regular student at the school; he attended an alternative educational program but used the bus that passed by Chardon. Without saying a word, he began firing at point-blank range at a group of students waiting for classes to begin. The att@ck was swift and devastating. Three teenagers di€d: 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor; 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin; and 17-year-old Russell King Jr. Two other students were injured but survived. The investigation found no clear motive for the crime. Lane had no direct relationship with the victims, and the att@ck did not follow the pattern of ideological planning common in other cases of school vi0l€nce. He had a history of unstable behavior, a family life marked by domestic vi0l€nce, and serious emotional problems. After firing the shots, Lane dropped the we@pon and fled on foot, but was pursued by a teacher and arrested by police moments later, still near the campus. In 2013, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole. The case shocked the country again in September 2014, when Lane and two other inmates managed to saw through the bars of their cell, climb fences, and escape from Allen Correctional Institution. The escape was short-lived: Lane was recaptured hours later, hiding behind a dumpster about 150 meters from the prison.
