So Goshuincho books are NOT for train station/ eki stamps or regular stamps, they are ONLY for the goshuins you get at shrines or temples, to show your pilgrimage across the shrines and temples. Please don't promote that they are for this, as I've just left Kyoto and have seen so many temples and shrines having to put signs up stating this, and they can refuse to do the goshuin if you use the goshuin incorrectly.

how did you manage to learn about goshuincho and not know it's meant for goshuin. get a regular stamp book with way more pages for normal stamps

I also live in Japan and I don’t really agree with this. This book and the stamps are not souvenirs. It’s actually part of a religious belief and practice. Also not just shrines, but also temples have them and they are different beliefs. Right now I have noticed they have been putting signs up in shrines and temples saying this. It says usually something like “this is not a souvenir, this is a religion”. I’m not saying you can’t get one. I’m just saying I think you should be informed of what it means and stands for and the religious/belief importance. I think it’s important to not just be informed but to respect and understand that this is more than just a souvenir to them. Another alternative if people want to collect stamps is getting a regular stamp book and going to stations and getting the stamps they offer at train stations. That way it also shows that you were at that location and they also have really cute designs. :)

FYI CAN'T use the same book for both. Pick one or the other. If you put anything else in the book, they will turn you away at the temples / Shrines. I would just use a basic notebook for the Eki stamps.

thank you somuch for this tip. I'll be 30 next year and it looks like I may never go to Japan anytime soon. but my oldest daughter wants to take me when im nice and old. 😂 she said she'll wheel me around if she has to. she has been living the Japanese food we make together. im glad we have sweet memories that can be made for the future.

I brought one of these as a souvenir but also a memory of visiting the sacred temples. Using them as a stamp book is so disrespectful, use a notebook for stamps. It’s a religious book 🥲
