Mrs Dalloway is a great short book, but wouldn’t classify it as beginner friendly. The constant change of pov is not easy to follow.

I'm actually reading Carmilla right now and really like it! It's a shame it's so underrated though and I wish it got its flowers because usually when people think of gothic and vampires Dracula is the one everyone knows. I also think, with the right director, Carmilla would be a phenomenal movie!

Actually, there is a controversy surrounding Rebecca. It is said to be a plagiarism of the 1934 Brazilian novel A Sucessora (The Successor) by Carolina Nabuco. I’ve never read either of them to be able to spot the similarities.
