My cat was diagnosed with this. She went on to live 14 years after fluid was removed from her lungs. She lived for pure love. She passed away today from liver failure 😔😔😔

This is a big reminder for people to take their cats to the vet and get the full senior blood panel! Like with humans, there can be subtle signs of heart issues for quite a long time before a heart attack happens, and its really important to keep up with yearly monitoring.

This happened to my Simba. He didn’t die immediately but I rushed him to emergency vet and this is what they said it was so I had him put down immediately in my arms 😭

My cat did this after having a stroke, she also walked in a cirkle just towards one direction. She had to be put down.

My cat Peterson was diagnosed with this disease. Thankfully, he’s well-medicated, comfortable, and still his happy little self. Our vet encouraged us to cherish every day we get with him and we’ve taken that to heart. I’m commenting to help spread awareness, because early detection and proper care can make such a difference.

Also get familiar with first aid and CPR for your pet. Everything we learn for humans is applicable to pets but differently based on their anatomy. You can watch tutorials on YouTube or even book a first aid class for pets. Knowing first aid can save lives!

I’ve lost three cats to HCM, only one displayed signs before he started to suddenly died, he passed in his carrier waiting for the vet. I’m traumatized and terrified by this disease.

I lost my boy to HCM in December. The symptoms came on so suddenly, rushed him to the vet where they told me he was in congestive heart failure. they saved him and he was put on heart meds and a diuretic. but 8 weeks later he went into congestive heart failure for a 2nd time anf he wasnt responding to treatment, so i had to make the decision to let my wee boy go 😭😭

My cat was diagnosed with HCM around 1 when the vet found a murmur. He’s been on atenolol ever since and is currently 8 and showing no signs of disease progression. Not saying it’s possible for all, but some hope!

For added info: HCM is often difficult to diagnose. Many cats don’t develop an abnormal rhythm or a murmur. Some may maintaina completely normal cardiac silhouette on radiographs. A proBNP *might* be abnormal. But a normal result doesn’t exclude heart disease …and an abnormal result doesn’t confirm heart disease. An echocardiogram is the only way to definitively diagnose it…and realistically that’s not in a lot of people’s budgets. HCM is often a silent killer :(
